The History of Easter Egg Hunts

Easter egg hunts trace their origins to Germany in the late 16th century when Martin Luther organized searches for the women in his congregation. The tradition linked to the story of the empty tomb and resurrection, with eggs symbolizing new life. When German immigrants arrived in America in the 18th century, they brought "Osterhase," a tradition where children created nests for a hare to lay colored eggs. The custom evolved into the modern Easter egg hunt, further popularized in America when President Rutherford B. Hayes hosted the first White House Easter Egg Roll in 1878, establishing a national tradition that continues today.

Dad joke of the week
